Sustainable Adventure
What would mary do?
For over 90 years, hostelling has been at the heart of sustainable active travel. In support of Scotland’s Year of Stories in 2022, we’re were delighted to launch a video inspired by the poignant and insightful diaries written by 17-year-old Mary Harvie, from Shotts, Lanarkshire, in the summer of 1936.
‘What would Mary do?’, is a cycling film that celebrates the true spirit of hostelling and captures the natural beauty of Scotland’s majestic and remote landscapes.
Created by Maciek Tomiczek, it follows Lee Craigie, Phillippa Battye and Alice Lemkes from The Adventure Syndicate, a group of female adventurers who promote mental and physical wellbeing through their outdoor endeavours, as they take on a five-day, 300-mile, cycling and HostelPacking journey, from Glasgow to the Highlands and Skye.
